Quality Assurance (QA) in higher education is based on the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG 2015) and on the provisions issued by ANVUR concerning the periodic accreditation of universities and study programmes.

According to the ESG 2015, quality is primarily the result of the interaction between teachers, students and the institutional learning environment, with the aim of:

• preparing students for active citizenship and their future careers;
• supporting their personal development;
• creating a broad base of advanced knowledge;
• stimulating research and innovation.

In this context, quality assurance ensures that the content of study programmes, learning opportunities and teaching facilities are fit for purpose.
