GOALS

The master course in WMCC is aimed at creating the professional figure of “wildlife manager”, with general skills in the field of wildlife management and conservation, complemented by technical and managerial skills on specific issues related to the sustainable management of terrestrial and aquatic faunal resources.

Acquired know-how:

  • mechanisms regulating wildlife populations and affecting their interaction with humans,
  • field and laboratory protocols to monitor wildlife (presence, abundance, health, behaviour),
  • measures of active management (reintroductions, translocations, numerical control)
  • economic aspects in wildlife management and conservation
  • decision-making processes in wildlife management and sanitary control,
  • practice with counting, capturing and manipulating wildlife species,
  • practice with laboratory methods in population genetics, epidemiology and parasitology,
  • experience in foreign institutions managing wildlife

REQUIREMENTS

The WMCC master course is open to students possessing a bachelor degree and a sufficient background in some main disciplines. The following requirements are requested:

  • English level B2
  • Degree in one of the following fields: Biological Science, Natural Science, Forestry Science, Zootechnical Science, Veterinary or similar.
  • A minimum of 36 credits in veterinary, biological or agronomical disciplines (VET/01, VET/02, VET/05, BIO/05, BIO/07, BIO/18, AGR/07, AGR/16)
  • The student must provide a documentation (in Italian or English), proving the fulfilment of the requirements
  • A committee evaluates, through an oral test, the background of the students in the following fields: anatomy and physiology, microbiology, zoology, ecology and genetics.

JOB PERSPECTIVES

The master graduate will be able to work in public bodies responsible for planning and control of the territory, in bodies responsible for managing the natural heritage, in other public structures operating in the health and environmental field, as well as operators and employee of territorial hunting areas, in companies, professional studios and private consortia engaged in the acquisition of wildlife data, in impact and strategic assessments, in the planning and planning of environmental restoration interventions and in public and private structures engaged in teaching and in the dissemination of scientific culture.
